What better place to spend a holiday than Portugal and what better way to start it than a Click Transfers airport transfer. Wonderful beaches washed by the Atlantic, medieval castles, remote old-fashioned villages, and beautiful countryside.
Lisbon, the capital is located in the south, is steeped in history. Wonderful place to visit if you enjoy architecture and culture. Belem Tower, which is a World Heritage site, offers wonderful views of the city, river and the surrounding towns and landscape, maybe even as far as Sintra. The building of the Castle of St George began in the 6th century. Climb the towers and walk along the ramparts and experience the fabulous views over the city. The surrounding gardens are home to peacocks, ducks and geese.
One of the world's largest aquariums is the Oceanarium in Lisbon. A brilliant day out, with around 25,000 fish, mammals and birds to admire in outstanding surroundings.
The beaches on the southern coast of the Algarve are beautiful - white or golden sand washed by the Atlantic ocean. All resorts are well catered for with restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and nightclubs.
Albufeira is probably the best known resort on the Algarve. It was a small fishing village until the 1960s when the tourist industry started to flourish. Some of the old town still remains with it's narrow streets and tiled buildings, and the square is a delightful place to while away an hour or two in a restaurant or cafe, and people watch. Albufeira has 25 white sandy beaches, with a variety of water sports available on almost every beach. It has a lively nightlife, restaurants galore, bars and cafes.
Portimao is well renowned for its magnificent beach with yellow rock formations, caves and nature reserves. Wonderful place for shopping, playing golf, nightlife or just enjoying a meal of freshly caught sardines in one of the harbour restaurants.
Porto, in the north, is the second largest city in Portugal, with beautiful architecture and interesting museums. However, the beaches are not really to be recommended as they can be dirty. The beaches in Espinho, such as Praia de Baia, are much better - Blue Flag quality - and suitable for surfing in the Atlantic rollers, or try the Miramar beach (25 minute train ride from Porto) which is very clean, again Blue Flag, with white sand. Nice little cafes and bars along the promenade.
Madeira lies about 700km off the coast of Morocco. It has a sub-tropical climate with most rain fall between October and March. Lush vegetation, mountains and super coastline.
The capital is Funchal. Take the cable car and see the fabulous views of the city, and then on to Monte Palace with its magnificent gardens. If you're feeling brave use the toboggans for your return journey down the hill, and then a local bus to take you the rest of the way. Steer clear of the taxi drivers waiting there, they will really overcharge.
As the island of Madeira is only about 60km by 22km, hire a car or use the local transport to visit some of the other beach resorts and explore the countryside. Small island but so much to see.
